THE FIRST CLASS meets from 10-11am on the campus to have an introduction and discussion on thrifty shopping. All other classes we usually arrive at a thrift store at 10 a.m. to shop and then continue on to other shops or to lunch. The instructor sends out emails to the students each week with the schedule for that Thursday along with helpful hints. Sometimes photos are shared of treasures that have been found. We attempt to car-pool to the sites but students often come from different towns and we’ve found this difficult. None of the stores are more than an hour from Augusta.

 

THRIFTY SHOPPING THURSDAY SCHEDULE

Everyone loves a bargain! Fortunately, our area is rich with terrific thrift stores, giving us plenty of opportunities to save money while discovering unique and useful treasures. This class will visit some of the very best shops around (and a couple not the best) learning what makes each one special and how to spot real bargains. Along the way, we’ll talk about smart thrifting tips, quality finds, and the joy of reusing and repurposing, if possible. I will also arrange for special discounts at the shops, making our treasure hunt even more rewarding…10 to 25% off!

THRIFTY SHOPPING

Corley Anne Byras grew up in a household shaped by the Great Depression, where being thrifty and helping others weren’t options – they were a way of life. A 1962 graduate of Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, Corley earned a degree in education and never looked back. Teaching became more than a career; it became a lifelong habit. As the wife of an enlisted serviceman and the mom of four, she mastered the art of stretching a dollar long before it was fashionable. While stationed at Pease Air Force Base, she put those skills to work as co-chair of the base thrift shop. Today, she continues her bargain-with-a-purpose tradition at the Andwell Thrift Store in Augusta where for four years she has helped shoppers score great finds while raising funds for Hospice. Proof that dong good and finding good deals can go hand in hand.
