• How do birds sing two or more notes at the same time?

This fall version of Marvelous Birds will include several key aspects of what makes a bird a bird that were covered in last spring’s class, plus many new incredible bird tidbits! In class we will go over some tips on how to ID birds and, hopefully, put our newfound skills to the test during our field trip.

Fall is a perfect time to look at ducks and we’ll have a great chance to do that at Sabattus Pond in Sabattus. The pond is infested with Chinese Mystery Snails, which are like escargot to migrating ducks. Thus, we can see hundreds of Ruddy Ducks, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, and many other species which are regulars here in the Fall.

What to bring: Birding binoculars are necessary and scopes are even better, so please bring your birding binocs. I will have at least two scopes to share, but bring yours if you have one. Field Guides are also helpful to bring to class; I’ll also have a number to use.
