Have you ever wondered how the criminal justice system operates?
Did you ever look at statistics about crime and criminals and wonder where they originate and whether they are accurate?
Were you ever curious about how prisons function and the type of criminal who is likely to spend time there?
Do you have questions about how and why police behave as they do and the procedures that govern what they can and cannot do?
Would you like to know more about laws and other types of regulations that restrict behavior?
In this course, students will learn about these issues and others and have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussions about the criminal justice process.
The instructor will provide all necessary materials or refer students to online sources.
Gail Rioux received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from The University at Albany – State University of New York. She taught criminal justice at several college and universities and achieved the rank of tenured professor at West Virginia State University. In addition, she served as Chair of the Criminal Justice Department and the Dean of the School of Professional Studies at that institution. She has conducted research in prisons and jails, on domestic violence, the homeless, and was a principal investigator on a federal grant from the Transportation Security Administration regarding educational needs of personnel. She is now retired and lives in Fayette.
