This one day class will focus on identifying native Maine trees, particularly those found around the Augusta area. The class will first be a Power Point presentation of identification characteristics of Maine trees, based on the Maine Forest Service book – Forest Trees of Maine. Identifying features will include leaves, needles, bark, twigs, form, size and color.  The morning lecture will end at noon. The class will reconvene in a woodlot in Sidney, Maine at 1:30. The second part of the class will be looking at many different tree species and how to identify them as they grow in the forest. This class will appeal to anyone with an interest in forest management or with just a curiosity about the trees growing all around us in Maine. Participants should be prepared to walk on uneven ground on woodland roads and trails.
