This is a five-part course and discussion about hearing loss and hearing aids. We’ll talk realistically about hearing loss and its profound impact on our lives. We’ll discuss the effectiveness and limitations of hearing aids in the real world and how they are only part of the solution. The ‘Beyond Hearing Aids’ class talks about listening and speaking strategies, how hearing loss is a family affair, and how each one of us can play an essential role to make both speaking and listening easier on everyone. We’ll have lots of time for discussion, so bring your questions!

Class outline: five two-hour classes will cover the following areas:

Class 2. More on Hearing Aids and Working with Your Audiologist

Class 3. How We Hear with Our Ears and Brain

Class 4. Hearing Testing—What to Expect and Understanding Your Test Results

Class 5. Beyond Hearing Aids—Communication Strategies for the Real World
