Animals have been socializing and working with humans on boats and in marine environments for millennia. This talk features animal heroes, newly evolving survivial stories and animals whose original functions have become obsolete and their exploits forgotten.
This is a single one-time zoom lecture.
Maritime Pets at the Margins
Patricia Sullivan received her B.A. and M.A. in History from the George Washington University. She directed three notable American historic house museums and later became a consultant for the American Association of Museums and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. In addition to curating several exhibits and developing major collections management strategies, Sullivan also developed an action and operating plan for the Newseum, a Washington DC museum of journalism; she also developed long range operating plans for the U.S. Mint Museum and the Museum of Latin American Art, both in Washington D.C.
Sullivan established the Museum of Maritime Pets in 2006, and is its Chief Operating Officer. The Museum was founded in Annapolis MD and operated virtually for its first 15 years, with a world-wide following and a sizable volunteer corps. It established “walls” late in 2021, and now operates in Rockland ME at the Sharp’s Point South Museum Complex.
