This is our final Beginner’s Bridge class because after this you will NOT be beginners! Previously we have learned that it is pretty easy to know when to open the bidding based on the strength of our hand, but it’s the Responder (partner of the Opener) who is key to finding the right contract. As we continue our series, we will use the 3rd book in the Audrey Grant series: “Bridge Basics 3: Popular Conventions”. We will learn about strong opening bids and how to respond as well as how to bid for small or large slams, using the Blackwood and Gerber conventions. After we learn those conventions, we will go back to getting deeper into how to bid when the opponents are also competing for the contract. (Competitive Auctions, chapter 4 of Bridge Basics 2) Successful bidding is all about describing your hand to your partner to find the right contract. This will include the Responder’s Preemptive Jump Raise, Responder’s Cuebid, Responder’s Double (also called the Negative Double) and Responder’s Redouble. We will also learn about the Advancer’s actions in a competitive auction. Class size is limited to 16, so sign up early!

There is a $3 charge each day payable at the sign-in at the Center. There also will be a cost for the book.
