SAFELY CREATING ONLINE ACCOUNTS

This class walks you through the process of creating an online account. We also discuss how to recover your password should you forget it, what the potential issues are for privacy and safety, and how to best navigate those issues. Bring a device to connect to the internet (smartphone, tablet/pad or laptop) and you will need an internet account.
In the past 20 years, the way that Americans work, communicate and play has changed. One of the changes that we have all experienced is the increased use and reliance on “digital media” with smartphones, tablets, computers and even watches. Learning how to use this modern media can be daunting and sometimes confusing.
These classes will help students understand the basics of using digital media and different devices. The instructors for the classes will be provided by the National Digital Equity Center, a national nonprofit group. One of its goals is “to close the digital divide, assuring all populations valid and equitable participation in the Internet of Things.” The instructors will appear over Zoom and each class will have a trained facilitator on site. Class size will be limited to 10 students.
• You must register for each class separately.
• Students do not need to be members of UMA Senior College to register.
