Understanding Addiction

Many of us have friends or family members that have been affected by addiction. Understanding their struggle can be difficult and we may wonder about the avenues for treating this disease.

This course offers a look at the history of addiction treatment as well as a better understanding of the disease itself based on the most current medical and science based information. We explore such topics as the addicted brain, the natural use of substances, recovery language, recurrence (relapse), current treatment approaches, and a history of the 12 step approach.
