This is a five-part course about hearing loss and hearing aids. We’ll talk realistically about hearing loss and its profound impact on your life. We’ll walk you through your hearing test, then introduce you to digital hearing aids and how to use them effectively in the real world. We’ll then talk about how communication strategies offer essential tips to help everyone get heard, so spouses and partners are very encouraged to attend.
Class outline: Five two-hour classes will cover the following areas:
Class 1. How We Hear with Our Ears and Brain
Class 2. Hearing Testing and Basic Hearing Aids
Class 3. Fancy Hearing Aid Technology
Class 4. Using Hearing Aids in the Real World
Class 5. Beyond Hearing Aids: Communication Strategies
This course will offer lots of opportunity for discussion, so bring your questions!
What’s Stopping You From Wearing Hearing Aids?
Eric C. Risch, M.S. is a graduate from the University of Maine in Farmington and has a Master of Science in Audiology from the University of Rhode Island. He was a clinical audiologist at the Togus VA Audiology Department until his retirement in 2021. His areas of specialization are aural rehabilitation with emphasis on tinnitus treatment and communication counseling. He was also an adjunct instructor for University of Southern Maine, and presented numerous conference lectures and seminars on age and noise related hearing loss, tinnitus therapy, dual-sensory loss, digital hearing aids, and communication counseling.
