Class size 6-12 students

This course is for anyone who wants to become a better listener. We will do vocal exercises to learn how to get in touch with our natural voices – which we’ve not been in touch with since we were young children. And we will learn how to listen to each other. We will end up by creating a piece to be performed at the end of class. This is a ‘doing’ class, so participants should come prepared to move and dress accordingly.

Bring a notebook and writing utensil.

Barbara Helen Baker has been teaching acting at all levels from ages 7 through seniors. She taught senior oral history theatre here in the past, which resulted in public performances; and for seven years, she taught acting to high school students at The Public Theatre in Lewiston. In 2019 Barbara Helen formed the Colonial Theatre Youth Troupe, and ran it for a couple of years. She taught acting for adults at The Dallas Theater Center; college students at Lon Morris College and UT at Tyler, Texas; and high school students at Providence High School in San Antonio. She has also directed “Grease” and “Once Upon A Mattress” for Johnson Hall in Gardiner, “The Matchmaker” at Maranacook Community Theatre and “El Grande de Coca Cola”, “Dead Man Walking”, “Annie”, “Electra”, “Someone Like Me”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, among others.
