Mondays • 3/23 – 5/11 • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Class size 4-10 students

Location: Jewett 114

This class may be attended in person or by zoom.

Here’s your challenge: Understanding that your story is worth telling and being willing and courageous enough to write it. The class meets for two hours each week and writes to prompts. I provide a syllabus with each week’s materials as well as a writers’ kit for any new students. We write personal stories and some fiction. I am using a new text and new prompts.

We will meet for eight sessions and will write something two or three times each session. There will be opportunities to share. We will create a chapbook from a final piece you will write.

NOTE: There will be a $15.00 per student fee to cover cost of printing the syllabus and the cost of  printing and mailing of the chapbook.

Writers’ Workshop – PM

Janet Cowperthwaite has worked with Writers’ Workshop in her second-grade class and in a graduate writing class. The workshop that Janet has been leading in Senior College has evolved from those experiences, and she feels her job is to be facilitator, encourager, and cheerleader.

Janet graduated from Houlton High School in 1959 and from the University of Maine in 1963 with a degree in English and credits to be certified as an elementary teacher. She earned a master’s in education, also from UMaine in 1992.
