and an Alternative

The 2020 general election is a few short weeks away, and the Electoral College is once again a major topic of national discussion. On October 21 at 3 pm, the UMASC Forum Committee will lead a discussion on the history and original intent of the Electoral College. Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution may play a major role in the election of our next president, just as it did in the 2016 election. The program will also cover the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPV) proposal. The NPV is a law already enacted by several states that could provide a means of ensuring that the popular vote prevails.
This free Zoom presentation is the first in a new discussion format called the Idea Exchange, designed to bring information on significant social issues to the Senior College community in these days of pandemic isolation.
Tom Feagin, former chair of the Senior College Board and one of the founders of the “Forum on the Future” will describe the background of the Electoral College and its effect on the democratic process.
Lori Calderone, a member of the League of Women Voters and activist promoting the NPV, will describe the status of this proposal and calls for its implementation.
Click above to reserve a seat, or contact the UMASC office by leaving a voicemail at 621-3551 or emailing office@umasc.org.
After you reserve your seat, checkout, and place your order, you will receive an immediate email confirmation, and prior to the Wednesday afternoon presentation, you will receive a Zoom invitation.
